Romorantin-Lanthenay is the capital of Sologne. This commune of about 18’000 inhabitants is located in the department of Loir-et-Cher is a fusion of two little towns Romorantin and Lanthenay
(28 May 1961).
The first documents talking about Romorantin are rather recent (XII century). This fortified town (only the right side is fortified) was attacked by the British in 1356.
During XV Century, François 1er, who really liked this town asked Leonard de Vinci to build a new city and a royal residence near the Sauldre (river).
When da Vinci died the project was abandoned and the king went to Chambord.
History leaved marks, so you can go for a walk near the castle and the parc of Beauvais which are in a beautiful landscape.
In the “Pyramide de l’Espace” of François 1er you will maybe have the chance to see one of the many exhibitions, concerts or entertainments.
